Traveling with Scoot: Information on checked baggage allowance

While many international airlines are tightening their baggage policy, Scoot’s baggage policy is becoming more flexible.

What is the weight and size limit for checked baggage on Scoot?

The maximum weight allowed varies depending on the airline and the route you are taking.

If you’ll be traveling with Scoot soon, be aware that this airline has its own baggage allowance system. The baggage allowance corresponds to the weight or number of pieces of baggage you can carry free of charge in the hold.

  • In Economy Class:

Fly Fare: Checked baggage is subject to a fee.

FlyBag or FlyBagEat: One 20kg piece.

  • In ScootPlus Class:

One 30kg piece is allowed (or divided into several suitcases).

Remember that you can increase this baggage allowance by purchasing one or more baggage supplements, while respecting the weight limit for each piece, which is 32kg.

  • Maximum baggage size

While there is a weight limit, it’s worth mentioning that there is also a rule that determines the baggage dimensions to be respected and not exceeded.

In both travel classes offered on Scoot flights, the combined dimensions of a checked bag must not exceed the following size: 140cm x 40cm x 45cm.

Carrying large or oversized baggage

If you wish to carry your surfboard, fishing rods, or any other item or object that weighs (over 32kg) or is larger than Scoot’s standard size (over 225cm), you may need to ship them as cargo (FREIGHT PAGE).

Carrying a device that powers a lithium-Ion battery

Devices with lithium-ion batteries of less than 160 Wh are accepted in the hold. Examples: laptops, tablets, smartphones, oxygen concentrators, etc.

Mobilities such as electric scooters, Segways, hoverboards, etc. generally operate with batteries with a power greater than 160 Wh, so they are not held in the hold, but can be transported as freight.

Transporting rechargeable batteries such as power banks: They are strictly prohibited in the hold, but you can take them in your cabin baggage.

– Powder in checked baggage

Powder-like substances in any quantity may be carried in checked baggage on Scoot flights.

An unlimited number of containers of powder may be carried in checked baggage, provided that each container does not contain more than 350g of powder.

Types of powders permitted: Salt, salt scrub, sand, talcum powder, powdered deodorants, foot powders, detergents

and powdered cleaning products, powdered infant formula, powdered foods, coffee, protein powder, flour, spices, sugar, cosmetics, Epsom salt, etc.

Products prohibited in checked baggage on Scoot

Baggage that goes into the hold undergoes checks designed to detect prohibited products, such as explosive or flammable products, narcotics, etc. So, what are the products that really cannot go in the hold baggage?

Indeed, the list is extensive and includes all explosive substances such as fireworks, firecrackers, ammunition, detonators, flammable materials, small camping gas canisters or lighters, as well as chemicals and lithium batteries, which are strictly prohibited in checked baggage.

However, weapons are permitted with a weapons permit and upon presentation of a weapons declaration at customs.

Knives are also permitted as long as they are properly packaged.

Fees applied by Air France for checked baggage

With the low-cost airline, baggage check-in is not free. You can find out the price for carrying your checked baggage when booking your Scoot flight online or by logging into your Manage Booking account.

What should I do if my baggage is lost?

Scoot is responsible for transporting your baggage. If upon arrival you discover that your baggage is missing from the carousel or is damaged, don’t panic; instead, remember to report it to your airline as soon as possible.

The rule states, “After 14 days, baggage is considered lost; before this time, it is simply misplaced.”

If your baggage is considered lost, you may be entitled to compensation up to EUR 1,600 or SGD 2,400, according to the Montreal Convention.

In the event of delayed baggage delivery

If your baggage does not arrive at the same time or day as yours but is not lost or stolen, the airline must compensate you for essential expenses, subject to supporting documentation (e.g., the purchase of underwear, necessary cosmetics such as deodorant, etc.).

Otherwise, Scoot will offer you compensation based on weight, either 20 euros or 30 SGD per kilo.

To receive this small compensation, you must make a declaration at the airport by approaching the Scoot office or the lost and found office, with your booking reference.

Submit a claim with Scoot

This must be done as soon as possible, within seven days of your arrival. Likewise, if you notice damage to your baggage, you must also file a baggage claim within this time frame.

Also remember to report your baggage incident to your travel insurance or bank, as your credit card may cover this type of damage.
