Unaccompanied Minors on Scoot: Service Policy & Fees

Scoot has always made things easier for unaccompanied minors by offering them an escort service on its various domestic and international routes.

But first, you need to understand what an Unaccompanied Minor means at Scoot:

The Singapore-based low-cost airline offers its Unaccompanied Minor service to passengers between the ages of 12 and under 18.

Booking the Unaccompanied Minor Service in advance

Thanks to this service, which is highly valued by Scoot customers, parents can repatriate their children from abroad. However, you should be aware that the Singaporean airline has established a series of documents that parents and minors must present before traveling.

The regulations stipulate that all children travel on a single flight or a flight consisting of two or more itineraries, operated exclusively by Scoot or Singapore Airlines.

Make an advance reservation

Scoot reminds its customers that it refuses any request to book flights and transport services for unaccompanied minors made less than 48 hours before departure.

Requests for escort services for minors are made at the time of booking, most often through the Scoot airline’s call center. Please note that the number of seats is limited and the minimum age is regulated.

Complete the unaccompanied minor service request form

When traveling alone on Scoot, minors must have the usual documents such as a visa, identity card, and/or passport, as well as the form, which their parents must complete and present at the check-in counter before the flight.

This document contains the minor’s contact information and information about their allergies or special needs, as well as another document containing the contact information and telephone number of the accompanying person on departure (parent, guardian, etc.) and the accompanying person on arrival (i.e., the person who will pick up the minor at the destination airport).

Another waiver form must also be completed and signed by the minor’s parent, aimed at releasing the airline from any liability in the event of an incident, flight delay, cancellation, etc.

Fees applied for the UM Service

Indeed, there is no confirmed information shared on the official website or from a reliable source on this matter. The best way to find out is to contact Scoot customer service.

Flight day: the steps to be observed

– At boarding

Children are never left alone and have priority boarding. The accompanying adult must wait until the plane actually departs before leaving the airport. Upon arrival, the person waiting for the child will need to provide proof of identity.

– During the trip

Provide your child with entertainment: a cuddly toy, books, game consoles, snacks, etc. Scoot also offers in-flight entertainment such as cartoons. Young travelers will also benefit from the special attention of the cabin crew during the flight.

– When arrive at its destination

In some countries, additional checks are required upon entry to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Great Britain, Croatia, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia, South Africa, etc. The reason given for these checks is to prevent child abductions. It is therefore advisable to carry a corresponding declaration of consent from the legal guardian in English or in the relevant national language of the country of travel or the countries the child passes through during their trip.

  • What if one parent has sole custody of a child?

There are also family situations where one parent has sole custody (in the case of a divorced couple). In this case, it may be difficult to carry a consent form from the other parent. In this case, it is recommended to carry a document certifying sole custody, such as a court order… If this seems impossible given the potentially strict regulations of the country you wish to travel to, you are recommended to contact the competent authority of the country concerned beforehand.
