Traveling with a wheelchair on Scoot? Here’s how to request assistance

When traveling by plane, some passengers require more assistance than others. This is particularly the case for people with disabilities.

Scoot supports the elderly as well as people with reduced mobility, those who cannot move around without a wheelchair.

If you need assistance during your flight with Scoot, you must contact their customer service directly to inform them of your needs in advance. You have up to 48 hours before the flight to make your request.

For any request for special assistance, including the transport of a wheelchair on Scoot by a passenger with reduced mobility, completing this form is necessary.

Checking in your wheelchair

First of all, it should be noted that Scoot does not allow wheelchairs to be carried in the cabin. Therefore, if you need to travel with such a device, you can use it to move around the airport and to check-in.

Upon arrival at your destination, airport staff will escort you to the travelator to retrieve your wheelchair.

Scoot does not impose specific conditions, weight limits, or dimensions for wheelchairs, but does require them to comply with IATA regulations. So what does the International Air Transport Association have to say about this?

  • Manual wheelchairs:

– First, wheelchairs are checked free of charge.

– Secondly, as a medical device, the wheelchair is not counted towards the checked baggage allowance allocated to the passenger.

  • Electric wheelchairs:

They are permitted in the hold provided the battery is removed. To avoid any risk of short circuit, Scoot requires that the battery be packed in rigid, waterproof, and ventilated packaging.

If the wheelchair is powered by a lithium battery, it must have a maximum capacity of 300 Wh. If two batteries are transported, the capacity of each must not exceed 160 Wh.

Size and weight limit

Regarding the check-in of wheelchairs, Scoot does not apply any weight or size restrictions except on flights operated by A320, where a dimension restriction is applied: The height of the device must be less than or equal to 116 cm.

Important to know:

Scoot allows deaf and visually impaired passengers to board with their assistance dogs in the cabin, free of charge.

Assistance is provided to passengers as needed, particularly during seat assignments and meals.

Boarding without a wheelchair

Passengers with reduced mobility must be able to climb stairs and sit in their seat or move around the cabin independently. Otherwise, Scoot asks him to travel with an escort.

Need a wheelchair for boarding? Book the High Lift Service

Very useful for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM), particularly those who cannot climb the aircraft stairs. The service is chargeable and must also be booked 48 hours in advance or more.

– How much does this service cost?

Scoot charges a fee of 200 SGD for the High Lift service booked on direct flights, and 200 SGD for flights with one or more stopovers.

It should be noted that Scoot also charges a fee for providing a wheelchair at the airport (if the passenger does not bring their own wheelchair): 35 SGD on direct flights, and 70 SGD on flights with a stopover.

Note: Scoot reminds you that some airports may not have a wheelchair service. These are the airports in: Ipoh, Pekanbaru, Langkawi, Subang (Kuala Lumpur), Malacca, Kuantan, and Krabi.
