A passenger boarding a Singapore Airlines flight from Dubaï to Singapore was detained upon landing at Changi Airport. The reason? He was accused of stealing the carry-on luggage of a couple traveling in business class.

The incident reportedly occurred on December 20th when a 26-year-old passenger named Liu Ming took the luggage of an Azerbaijani couple from the overhead compartment above their row and brought it back to his seat a few rows away.

According to the victim’s wife, who noticed the man handling their luggage in the middle of the night: “I alerted the cabin crew, who in turn noticed the thief discreetly returning the suitcase to its place.”

The incident was reported to airport security, who detained the suspect as he disembarked the plane.

According to the victim of the theft: “The luggage contained watches and other valuables worth over 100,000 SGD.”

The suspect, prosecuted for attempted theft on board an airplane, was sentenced to twenty months in prison by a Singapore court on December 23.
