Jetstar Asia will cease operating flights from Singapore, the low-cost subsidiary of Qantas, due to lack of profitability.Following this decision, Scoot, the subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, has decided to fill the vacant slots.
According to statements made by its spokesperson to local media, the Singaporean low-cost airline has established three international routes connecting its Singapore-Changi hub to Okinawa-Naha in Japan, Medan in Indonesia, and Labuan Bajo in Indonesia.
Scoot will gradually take over the routes vacated by JetStar Asia, connecting Changi Airport to eighteen destinations in nine countries. For its part, Singapore Airlines plans to increase the number of its frequencies on certain routes on which it faced direct competition from JetStar Asia, such as flights to Manila, Jakarta and Phnom Penh, while the launch of flights to Brome and Wuxi – two exclusive routes for Jetstar Asia – is a decision that remains to be confirmed.
