Disabled passenger? Here’s how to request special assistance from Singapore Airlines

An increasing number of solutions are being developed to enable people with reduced mobility to travel. Whatever your disability, whether physical, visual, or hearing, Singapore Airlines provides tailored support to ensure you have access to its aircraft and fly to your destination without any hassle.

First and foremost, it’s important to emphasize that air passengers with any disability have the same right to access air travel as everyone else. Furthermore, while laws vary from country to country, they all aim to ensure that as many passengers as possible can travel with ease. Passengers requiring special assistance to travel on Singapore Airlines flights include:

– Passengers using wheelchairs

– Pregnant women

– The visually and hearing impaired

– Travelers requiring a stretcher

– Passengers requiring the use of a portable oxygen dispenser

– Passengers accompanied by service dogs.

– Assistance for elderly passengers

Assistance provided to passengers with reduced mobility is free, personal and non-transferable, valid to and from all destinations in the Singapore Airlines network.

Contact Singapore Airlines well in advance

Special Assistance is a service provided free of charge by Singapore Airlines to ensure that air passengers with additional needs feel comfortable at every stage of their journey, from the moment they arrive at the airport until they arrive at their destination.

However, 48 hours’ notice is required. Call +65 6223 8888 (Check here for other Singapore Airlines international contact numbers).

PPS Club members benefit from telephone assistance on a dedicated line: +65 9184 8888.

– Flight from/to the United States

Exceptionally, if you plan to travel with Singapore Airlines to or from the United States, you must complete this online form to inform the airline’s customer service team of all your needs, such as any equipment you may require at the airport to facilitate your mobility, such as a wheelchair.

Of course, customer service must also receive your request (submitted via the form) more than 48 hours in advance.

Accessibility services at the airport and on board

Depending on their condition and needs, passengers may request the following assistance:

– Assistance with check-in and navigating the airport.

– Assistance with baggage transfer.

– Boarding and disembarking (elevators, wheelchairs, or other facilities).

– Assistance during the flight and at the departure and destination airports.

– Priority treatment in services.

In addition, passengers with certain disabilities may be accompanied by another person or an assistance dog, provided this is justified and notified to the airline in advance.

For other needs, such as administering medication or if the passenger needs assistance with eating, the airline may refuse and request that the passenger travel with an escort, especially on long-haul flights. In this case, Singapore Airlines and airport staff will ensure that the escort is able to perform these tasks and, where possible, arrange for the two people to be seated together.

Is there a fee for assistance provided to passengers with reduced mobility?

No airline, including Singapore Airlines, is permitted to charge a fee for providing specific assistance to travelers with disabilities, either at the airport or on board the aircraft.

Traveling with assistance equipment and aid mobility in the cabin (wheelchair, crutch …)

If you request 48 hours in advance, you may transport your medical equipment and two pieces of assistance or mobility equipment, such as crutches or a wheelchair, in the cabin, in addition to your permitted baggage.

The carriage of recognized assistance dogs in the cabin is also permitted, subject to applicable national legislation. Check with your airline for current regulations.

Generally, airlines, including Singapore Airlines, allow passengers to carry certain equipment to assist them with mobility in the cabin, such as:

– Canes

– Crutches

– Foldable walkers

– Orthopedic devices such as splints and braces

– Removable prosthetics

– Manually assisted folding wheelchairs (Singapore Airlines generally provides wheelchairs in the cabin).

– Portable medical devices such as oxygen concentrators.
